Dyslexia Testing in Katy, TX: Understanding Why a Child Is Struggling

2 min read

A school evaluation asks whether a child qualifies for services. Ours asks a different question: why is this child struggling?

That is a real difference in approach, and it changes what families walk away with.

A different question, a different evaluation

A school evaluation is built around eligibility criteria. Ours is built around your child. We want to understand exactly what is going on, not just whether it reaches a threshold. What is the specific nature of the difficulty? What does the research say works? How do we help this child, in this family, in this school?

Signs families often notice

Children with learning differences often work very hard and still feel behind. Many become discouraged. Families tell us about things like:

  • Reading that is slow or avoided

  • Spelling and handwriting that stay difficult

  • Trouble remembering math facts

  • Homework that takes far longer than it should

Knowing the specific reason gives everyone a place to start.

What we assess for

Our team provides comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for children, adolescents and adults across Katy, Fulshear, Cinco Ranch and the greater Houston area. We use thorough, evidence-based testing protocols to assess for:

  • Dyslexia, which affects reading

  • Dysgraphia, which affects writing

  • Dyscalculia, which affects math

  • Other learning differences

Adults are welcome too. If reading, writing or math has always felt harder than it should, an evaluation can bring clear answers.

Why dual licensure helps

Four of our psychologists are dual-licensed as Licensed Psychologists (LP) and Licensed School Psychologists (LSP). We know how school systems work. We know what IEPs and 504 plans do and do not provide. When we write recommendations, they are practical and grounded in what schools can and should offer.

You are the expert on your child. We bring the testing expertise. Together, we find what works.

What to expect

We start by listening to your concerns and your child's story. Testing follows. About three weeks later, you receive a written report and meet with us in person to talk through what we found and what to do next.

New evaluation clients are often seen the same week.

A note on insurance

Learning disability evaluations are not covered by any insurance company. We provide detailed superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and accept FSA and HSA payments. We want you to know that upfront.
