Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
At Katy Psychological Services, we understand that starting therapy or psychological evaluations can bring up many questions. Below, we've compiled answers to some of the most common inquiries about our services, process, and policies.
- 01
ADHD Testing at Katy Psychological Services

Utilizing a combination of interviews, standardized tests, and behavioral observations, we ensure an accurate diagnosis to support effective treatment planning. Yes, we do perform the ADOS-2 as part of our assessment battery for ASD.
- 03
Parent Training and PCIT
Behavior Modification Therapy involves changing negative behaviors into positive ones through reinforcement strategies. It can be particularly effective for children and teens, helping them improve the parent-child relationship and help things go more smoothly at home. Specific types of behavior modification offered at KPS include parent management training (parent coaching session with the psychologist) to improve negative behaviors at home (ages 6 to teens), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) geared towards younger children (ages 4-10).

Learning Disability Testing Programs
Yes, we offer comprehensive testing for reading, writing, and math disorders commonly referred to as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia. All of our practitioners have specialized training in working with the school age population, and three of us have dual licensure as school psychologists. While schools can do testing to determine if a student meets eligibility for special education, we focus on a private evaluation that investigates “why” a child is having difficulties learning and what interventions would be best to help him/her succeed once we know more about their cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Our evaluations are comprehensive, meaning we will also get current information from your child’s teachers (unless you specifically request us not to).
We offer testing for adults as well. Our clients usually self-refer because they want to know if they have a condition of dyslexia or dyscalculia that is creating difficulty for them completing higher education classwork (community college, university, graduate school). In those cases, testing can provide documentation of a disability in which accommodations for the classroom might be beneficial.
We also test young children (ages 3-6) by conducting screenings for potential learning difficulties so that parents can intervene early on. This would be most helpful if you know that there are learning disabilities that run in the family and you are already seeing areas of concern.
- 05
Identifying the Need for ADHD Testing
If your child exhibits signs of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that impact their daily life and learning, they might benefit from ADHD testing. Early identification can lead to early intervention and better outcomes. This is true for any condition, not just ADHD.
- 06
Initial Steps for Suspected Learning Disabilities
If you suspect a learning disability, the first step is to schedule a comprehensive evaluation. At Katy Psychological Services, we'll guide you through the process to understand your child's educational needs and how to best support them.
- 07
ADHD Testing for Adults
Adults can indeed be tested for ADHD. The process involves clinical interviews, self-reporting assessments, and may include screenings for other psychological concerns to ensure a thorough evaluation.
