ADHD Testing in Katy, TX: Why the Full Picture Changes the Plan
ADHD is more than attention. Getting a real picture of it changes the plan.
For some families, the concern started at school. A teacher mentioned it. Or a pediatrician raised it. For others, it is an adult who has always felt like they are working twice as hard to get half as far, and is only now starting to wonder why.
A screen is a starting point
A rating scale or a quick screen is useful. It gives you a place to begin. It is not the whole picture, and it does not tell you what to do next.
What a thorough ADHD evaluation looks at
A thorough ADHD evaluation looks at how someone is actually functioning day to day, at home and at school or work. That includes:
Executive function, like planning, organizing and getting started on tasks
Processing speed
Emotional regulation
Daily functioning at home, at school and at work
ADHD often comes with company
Research shows high rates of co-occurring learning disabilities, anxiety, depression and autism spectrum disorder. A rating scale will not catch those. A thorough evaluation looks for all of them.
That matters because the support a child needs can look very different when ADHD shows up alongside a learning disability or anxiety. The same is true for adults. When the whole picture is on the table, the recommendations fit the person.
Who an ADHD evaluation can help
Parents who wonder whether a child's focus, restlessness or schoolwork struggles point to ADHD. Teens who are bright but overwhelmed by organization and deadlines. Adults who have coped for years and want to understand why things take so much effort. Students who need clear documentation to support accommodations.
ADHD evaluations in Katy, Fulshear and greater Houston
At Katy Psychological Services, we conduct comprehensive ADHD evaluations for children, adolescents and adults. Four of our psychologists are dual-licensed as Licensed Psychologists (LP) and Licensed School Psychologists (LSP). That means our findings are grounded in both clinical data and what schools can and should provide.
Our recommendations are practical. They translate into clear guidance for accommodations and supports. Bilingual evaluations are available in Spanish.
What to expect
An evaluation starts with listening. We learn what you are seeing and what you want to understand, then use testing to answer those questions. About three weeks after testing, you receive a written report and meet with us in person to talk through the findings in plain language.
Want to know how a full evaluation compares with a computerized test? We covered that in Why a Comprehensive ADHD Evaluation Matters More Than a Quick Computerized Test.
