Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Children, Adolescents, and Adults
Katy Psychological Services
What to Expect
For adults, CBT is a structured, evidenced-based therapy that has been well established in the mental health field as an effective treatment model to reframe negative thinking patterns, pessimism, overthinking, difficulty making decisions, and other "stuck" patterns interfering with your daily life functioning.
For kids, CBT can be effective for ages 7 and up to recognize how their own way of thinking of things may not be helping, and provides them a different perspective using kid-friendly strategies/curriculum to overcome depressive and anxious thoughts and behaviors.
Sessions can be short-term (4-6 sessions) or longer term (8-12 sessions) but can also be more involved (12-24 sessions) depending on type of symptoms and goals identified for improvement. The number of sessions can be better decided between you and your therapist after the initial session. While there are no guarantees in therapy and individual progress varies, participation in CBT is most utilized because it is effective for many. If it is not, your therapist can discuss other types of therapy modalities might be a better fit (DBT, ACT). Here at Katy Psychological Services, PLLC our clinicians have the expertise to integrate treatment ideas from several evidenced-based approaches, making your plan more personalized and impactful for your specific needs.
