About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. My experience includes working in private practice, an inpatient behavioral hospital, and at a non-profit crisis center for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.

Clients who might be a good fit with me:
Ages 10 and older including couples

Individual Therapy Areas
My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, parenting issues, women’s issues, sexual assault, domestic violence, Christian based counseling, coping skills, life transitions, relationship issues, and self-esteem.

Therapy Modalities CBT/DBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist clients learn coping skills to reduce rumination, guilt, negative thinking errors. In working with me, we may also use skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). These practical skills give people tools to use when their emotions feel overwhelming, overly stressful, or relationships feel too heavy and difficult. It's more than talk therapy, which has it's place, but sometimes does not create any meaningful change. With DBT, clients learn specific strategies to pause, respond more thoughtfully, and feel more in control. Skills include noticing what is happening in the present moment, getting through a stressful situation without making it worse, understanding and managing strong emotions, and communicating needs clearly while keeping healthy boundaries. It's never a one-size fits all, but you'll find which techniques works best for you.

EMDR
I am also fully trained EMDR, which can help a lot of people who have gone through something hard that they keep reliving and prevents them from healing. EMDR helps reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic experiences. EMDR can be used to support healing from anxiety, grief, and other stress-related issues and it takes a therapist with specific training to deliver EMDR effectively. It may also be good to know that you go at your own pace and you are told what to expect. Sessions can vary from 6-12 but Tara will give you a general idea once you start your work together.

CBT and ERP for anxiety disorders
Individuals with specific phobias or OCD-related tendencies can benefit from Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) a specific kind of cognitive-behavioral therapy that helps people gradually face the thoughts or situations that trigger anxiety while learning not to rely on compulsive behaviors for relief.

Tara has training and experience working with individuals with neurodiverse backgrounds. She uses a warm, nonjudgmental approach where clients feel can feel comfortable and safe, working at their own pace for healing.
