SERVICIOS DE TERAPIA

Question:  How do I know what kind of therapy I would benefit from?
Answer:  You don't really have to worry about choosing one over the other because it's our job to know,  but you can always ask us about the differences of each type of therapy when we meet initially.  What often happens is that we use tools from several of these approaches based on your feedback on what things have been helpful, and what has not worked as well for you.  This will vary greatly on each person, but the approaches mentioned above are all evidenced-based, meaning we are working with you on skills that have been studied and proven effective to treat certain conditions.  For example, a person with depression and/or anxiety could benefit from tools from all three treatments, ACT, DBT, and CBT. However, another person may have worked with a professional that provided CBT but did not find it as effective, but learning distress tolerance skills and mindfulness may be more useful.  The idea is not to find "one thing" that works but a combination of helpful strategies you can have in your tool box.

Question:What ages do you provide individual therapy for?  Answer: Children ages 7 and older, teens, adults, and older adults.

Question:  What is the youngest age you treat?

Short Answer:  3 to 17

Long Answer: For parent management training and PCIT, we treat as young as three years old through older teens.  It is an interactive approach meaning that for young children, parents are also involved.  Parent training and PCIT  involves teaching parents a more effective tool set to learn how to decrease negative behaviors and how to react appropriately when their child shows big emotions).  If we are working with an older teen and the family, we are changing the dynamics of how parents respond to their teen and how to increase compliance while improving the parent-child/teen relationship.  By the way, PCIT stands for Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.  While many of us provide parent training, only Dr. Carolyn Ha provides formal PCIT.

What is the oldest age you treat?

There is no such thing as too old if you'd like things to be better in your life, we're here to help.

Question:  Do you offer family or marriage therapy?  Answer:  At this time, we only offer individual therapy.
